A fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 18 west of Jay Avenue claimed the life of a Hull man and resulted in injuries to a Sioux Center man, according to the Iowa State Patrol, which investigated the collision.
The crash occurred on Highway 18, the major east-west corridor that connects Hull, Boyden, and Sheldon across the northern tier of Sioux County. The highway sees significant traffic from both local residents and commercial vehicles traveling through the region.
The Iowa State Patrol's investigation determined that the collision involved two vehicles traveling on Highway 18. The Hull man, whose identity was not immediately released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sioux Center man sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment.
The cause of the crash and the specific circumstances leading to the collision were under investigation by the State Patrol at the time of the initial report. No charges had been filed as of the initial reporting.
Highway 18 has been the site of several serious crashes in recent years, and law enforcement agencies in the region have periodically called for increased driver caution on the rural highway, particularly during periods of reduced visibility or adverse weather conditions.
