Governor Kim Reynolds visited Hull on Thursday, October 30, 2025, hosting a pre-legislative roundtable at American State Bank to discuss property tax reform and other priorities ahead of Iowa's 2026 legislative session.
The meeting brought together a cross-section of Sioux County's leadership, including business owners, city and county officials, and legislators. Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer, State Senator Jeff Taylor, and Representative Skyler Wheeler also participated in the closed-door session. While the discussion itself was not open to media, Reynolds spoke with Sioux County Radio afterward about her legislative priorities.
Reynolds described property tax relief as the "final piece" of her administration's comprehensive tax reform effort, noting that Iowa has already reduced income, pension, inheritance, corporate, and unemployment taxes. She said the property tax system, which she characterized as "complex and outdated," is the next major target for reform.
The governor also discussed her administration's efforts to streamline local government services and reduce duplication across county lines — a strategy she compared to her recent consolidation of 21 state agencies, which she said saved taxpayers $250 million.
Reynolds addressed federal issues as well, criticizing congressional Democrats over a government shutdown and outlining Iowa's response, including activating Volunteer Iowa and the National Guard to assist food banks. She stressed that the state cannot replace federal funding indefinitely but is committed to protecting vulnerable Iowans in the short term.
