Dordt University in Sioux Center is continuing several campus improvement projects this summer, with a wide range of updates planned for residence halls, academic facilities, parking areas, and outdoor student spaces ahead of the fall 2026 semester.
University officials say the work is focused on improving student life, enhancing accessibility, and preparing the campus for continued growth. Vice President of Operations Fred Verwoerd described the projects as a combination of visible upgrades and behind-the-scenes improvements.
One of the larger academic updates is an expansion of Dordt's cadaver lab, which supports hands-on learning opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare, nursing, and related fields. The expansion will increase the lab's capacity and improve the learning environment for students in health sciences programs.
Outdoor improvements are also underway near the Squares Apartments, where landscaping work and a new quad area will create additional gathering spaces for students. The parking lot near East Hall will be removed and converted into green space as part of broader landscaping efforts across campus.
Residence hall renovations this summer will include updates to first-floor bathrooms in both North Hall and East Hall, improving facilities for students living in those buildings.
On the parking front, commuter student parking will move to the lot near the B.J. Haan Auditorium, freeing up additional parking for employees closer to central campus buildings. Additional parking spaces are being added near the Theatre Arts Building, and visitor parking near the Campus Center loop will expand by approximately 47 spaces.
University officials say many of the projects are expected to be completed before students return to campus for the fall semester.
